I have the opportunity to present this evening to the Sequoia Audubon Society. This evening's presentation will be centered around the raptors that can be observed in the San Francisco Bay Area each Winter. We'll review the different genus so we can identify a buteo from a falcon or a vulture from an eagle. Living in California, we get to see some spectacular Wintering raptors including Ferruginous and Rough Legged Hawks and the elusive Merlin. We'll go over prefered habitats and food preferences and the field marks you should look for to make your ID. A field trip will be held on the following Sunday of this week with a focus on raptor ID. The fieldtrip will be held at "Wavecrest" in Half Moon Bay.

This beginning birding class is designed for people who have always wanted to learn about birdwatching and the birds coming to their own yards. No experience necessary! We'll review Field guides, optics, birding ethics, habitats, and even a little taxomony. We have roughly 250 different species of birds right here in Santa Clara County, but we will focus on the birds that we find in our backyards and neighborhoods.  This class includes two weekend morning bird walks so we can put our new knowledge into action.  All birding levels are welcome.
